I think that most people were resigned to this, and as you point out, expected this outcome. I would say it's tragic, as in no one wins, everyone loses. Including the women, our judicial system and even Gomeshi. While he may have been acquitted in court, he's absolutely guilty in the court of public opinion, not least because he employed a lawyer whose reputation almost assured an acquittal. The victims/claimants lose as well, not just because of the acquittal, but because of the reasons for the acquittal: their unreliable, contrived, dishonest, incomplete, misleading evidence and their collusion. The system loses as well. I think the public generally isn't very sophisticated and does not understand the law and judicial process and simply takes away that this is an unfair outcome.
